Folkets park in Malmö

The oldest people’s park in Sweden, Folkets Park has been a popular venue for leisure and fun ever since the 18th century. There is no entrance fee to the park which is a perfect place lazing with an ice-cream, browsing the flea markets or enjoying one of the outdoor concerts and theatre shows. Play mini golf, stop by the paddling pool and go skating in the wintertime. Two enormous playgrounds feature giant swings, slides and climbing frames. The terrarium has snakes, lizards, turtles and miniature monkeys.

Foteviken

Foteviken

Foteviken is a reconstruction of a large Viking Age settlement on the Höllviken peninsula in southern Skåne. It’s a city of inhabitable houses, creating a strong sense of authenticity. A full-scale recreation of a Viking ship found off the coastline is on display. The week following Midsummer the museum arranges the annual Foteviken Viking Market, that draws hundreds of merchants, craftsmen and Viking warriors from all around the world.

The Malmö Museums

Malmöhus Castle is the oldest preserved renaissance castle in the Nordics. Children will love the aquarium with its colourful fish in coral reefs and poisonous frogs from the rain forest. One ticket gives you access to the Technical and Nautical Museums just across the street, a Mecca for kids who love ships and trains. Climb through a real submarine, admire full size steam engines and let children play in the pirate ship playground.

Tykarpsgrottan – bat caves of Tykarp

This intriguing system of underground caves close to Hässleholm in central Skåne lies 12 metres below ground. The caves have been used as background in many films including Ronja the robber's daughter, based on the Astrid Lindgren novel. 8 different species of bat live here. The caves are closed from October until March/April to protect the bats.

Glimmingehus in eastern Skåne near the small city of Simrishamn is the best-preserved medieval castle in Scandinavia. The fortress dates back to 1499. The castle features a lot of unique defence elements, such as gaps to pour hot tar over intruders, drawbridges, trenches and other deadly traps. Listen to ghost stories in the summertime, try your hand at Middle Age-chores, join one of the guided tours or relax in the beautiful herb garden. There's a small entrance fee.
