Lake Immeln with its clean water, good fishing and cheap fishing permits is about 23 kilometres north of Kristianstad. It is one of Sweden’s best lakes for canoeing with its many islands and inlets that offer lots of opportunities for overnight camping on your own piece of shoreline. You can always find a quiet bay no matter which direction the wind blows.
Canoeing in Lake Immeln
Follow Skåne’s most popular canoe trail that takes you to a number of different lakes in the area. There are camping spots on a number of islands as well as on the mainland, where you can stay overnight, cook the bass or bream you caught earlier in the day, and use a toilet.
Immeln is known for its rich and diverse flora and fauna and many of the islands are Special Protection Areas (SPA) for birds. Bring your binoculars and spot a few rarities, such as fish hawk and throated diver. Gliding through the waters along the forest clad shores you might spot the very rare red waterlily. Similar to the Asian lotus flower, it adds an extra air of serenity to the landscape.
Immeln is a safe and accessible paddling area where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life without being disconnected, as you can use your mobile phone almost everywhere. There are several places to rent canoes and kayaks in the area, including Immelns Kanotcenter, where you can also rent equipment such as military tents, portable stoves and barbecues, and Brotorpets Kanot, located in Brotorpet Nature Reserve between lakes Immeln and Filkesjön.
Fishing in lake Immeln
Lake Immeln is a deep lake with clear waters and a stony bottom. The many islands, islets and skerries make it an exciting, challenging fishing lake. Spin for large perch and pike, or bait for bream, tench and whitefish. Pike bites best in spring and autumn. Perch, bream and tench are often active when the water is warmer from May through October. Try ice fishing for perch and pike. The most common fish species in the lake are perch, bream, pike, roach, tench, lavaret, whitefish, eel and trout.
Several of the islands in the lake are bird sanctuaries, which means that it is forbidden to go ashore on these specific islands during certain periods. Find out more information about these islands on the map of Immeln, which you can get where fishing licences are sold.
Rent boats, canoes and kayaks at Immelns Kanotcenter, as well as fishing guides and fishing permits. If you prefer to sleep in a bed instead of a tent there’s a B&B and a hostel nearby.
