Skåne has long been called Sweden's gateway to Europe. Hop on a train at Copenhagen Airport and, less than two hours later, you can be standing in the middle of the Scanian countryside. With cities, coastlines and countryside all close together, the region is easy to explore.
Arriving by train or bus
Travelling from continental Europe, you will most likely arrive at Malmö Central station passing through Denmark and Copenhagen. In Skåne, you can travel almost anywhere by train or bus using Skånetrafiken, the regions’ public transport operator.

Download the app
The Skånetrafiken app is the easiest way to get around by buses and trains in Skåne. Download it from the App Store or Google Play, buy your ticket directly in the app, and remember to activate it before boarding.
Buying tickets without the app
Tickets to travel within Skåne, to Denmark and surrounding counties are also available at Skånetrafiken's customer service centres. There are four customer service centres; at Malmö Central Station, Lund Station, Knutpunkten in Helsingborg and at Kristianstad Station.
Avoid getting fined
You have to buy a train ticket before the ride and entering the train or you can be fined. If you feel uncertain about which train to take or how to buy a ticket, don’t hesitate to ask the staff at the service desks.
Border controls
There are random ID checks at the train stations adjacent to the Öresund Bridge, at the toll station on the bridge and by the ferries in Denmark and in Sweden. However, there are no controls in the opposite direction from Sweden to Denmark. Make sure to bring a valid ID with photo identification for all family members (passport, valid driver's licence or approved Nordic EU ID card). Read more about border controls here.
Arriving by car or boat
Skåne is easy to reach by car from many parts of Europe. You can travel via Denmark and the Öresund Bridge or take a ferry from Germany, Poland or Denmark, with several routes allowing you to bring your car.
Once in Skåne, short distances and scenic roads make driving a convenient way to explore the region. Car rental is also available at airports, railway stations and in larger towns.
Arriving by plane
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is the main international gateway to Skåne and is just around 20–30 minutes by train from Malmö. Direct trains run frequently across the Öresund Bridge, making it easy to continue your journey to destinations throughout Skåne.
