Why Quiet?

Noise pollution is increasingly recognised as a public health issue. Prolonged exposure to noise pollution has been linked to increased stress, poorer sleep and higher blood pressure. Stay Quiet was created to offer the opposite: an opportunity to experience the restorative power of Skåne's quieter landscapes, where the sounds of wind, waves and birdsong replace the noise of everyday life.

How it works

Free to stay. As long as you stay quiet.
Inside the cabin, a sound monitor measures the sound level. As long as you remain below the set limit, the stay continues as planned. If the limit is exceeded consistently over time, you will be notified that your stay is over and asked to leave the following morning. The sound monitor only measure sound levels. It does not record conversations or audio.

What the stay involves

Three nights with less noise and fewer distractions.
During your stay, you'll be invited to slow down and experience Skåne through quietude, nature and presence. We have curated a program to help you embrace stillness, with plenty of space left to simply be. To fully disconnect from everyday distractions, phones and other digital devices will be put aside throughout the experience.

Meet the local people who will help shape the Stay Quiet experience.

Stay Quiet returns

The first Stay Quiet experience was launched in 2025 and attracted applications from more than 200 couples around the world. Following the international response, the experience is now returning in a new location by the sea.

Curious about the experience? Here's everything you need to know before applying.

Is the stay really free?

Yes. If you're selected, your stay at the Stay Quiet cabin, all experiences included in the programme and the travel to and from Skåne are completely free of charge. You'll enjoy accommodation, a curated programme of quiet experiences, selected meals and local activities.

How quiet do we have to be?

The cabin is equipped with a sound level meter that continuously measures the overall noise level inside the cabin. As long as the sound stays below 45 decibels, you're all set. In practice, that means speaking softly, avoiding loud conversations, music and other unnecessary noise. The challenge isn't to stay completely silent, it’s to experience what happens when you consciously lower the volume.

Can we talk at all?

Absolutely. Stay Quiet isn't about complete silence. You're welcome to talk with your travel companion, but we encourage calm conversations at a low volume. Think of the atmosphere you'd naturally have in a library.

Does the sound monitor record us?

No. The sound monitor does not record conversations or audio. It simply measures the overall noise level (decibels) in the cabin. Your conversations remain private.

What happens if we are too loud?

If the sound level exceeds the limit consistently over time, you'll first receive a friendly notification reminding you to lower the volume. If the limit continues to be exceeded, your Stay Quiet experience will come to an end, and you'll be asked to leave the cabin the following morning. A loud sneeze won't end your holiday.

When will the stays take place?

The Stay Quiet experiences will take place end of September - early October 2026, specific dates will be shared with the selected participants. Applicants can indicate any availability restrictions during the selection process.

Can anyone apply?

Anyone aged 18 or over can apply. Applications are open internationally and done in pairs. We welcome friends, partners, siblings or family members to apply together. The experience is conducted in English, so participants should be comfortable communicating in English. If you have accessibility needs, we'd be happy to discuss whether the experience can be adapted to suit you.

Can we bring children or pets?

No. Stay Quiet is designed as an experience for two adults, and children and pets cannot be accommodated during the stay.

Will we be photographed or filmed?

Parts of the experience will be documented by Visit Skåne for marketing and storytelling purposes, including photography and short video recordings. Interviews about your experience will be conducted in English before and after your stay. There will also be plenty of time for you to enjoy the experience without cameras present.

How will participants be selected?

We're looking for people who are genuinely curious about experiencing quiet. Applications will be assessed based on your motivation, your availability during the Stay Quiet period and how well you fit the spirit of the experience. Most importantly, we're looking for people who are ready to embrace a slower pace, and see what happens when life gets a little quieter.

Can I use my phone during the stay?

To help you fully disconnect, phones and other digital devices will be put away for the duration of your stay. An emergency phone will always be available if needed, and the Stay Quiet team can be reached at any time. This is one of the key parts of the experience giving yourself a rare opportunity to be fully present, without a constant pull of notifications.
