Sofiero Palace is one of Sweden’s most beautiful palaces, just north of the city of Helsingborg. The palace is surrounded by velvety lawns, lush green trees and dazzling flower beds above two rhododendron ravines that overlook Öresund and Denmark.

Landscaped by royalty

The palace was built in Dutch Renaissance style in 1864 and was Danish Queen Ingrid's summer home as well as many other royal figure. It is famous for its exceptionally beautiful landscaped parks and rhododendron garden planted by King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden.

The Sofiero Castle Garden

500 varieties of rhododendrons

Visit in late spring to early summer when over 10,000 rhododendrons in 500 varieties burst into bloom – one of Europe's largest collections.

There are several superb flower gardens in the park, some with panoramic views of Öresund, and generous lawns for picnics. There’s a café, plant shop, castle restaurant and a farm shop selling things for the home and garden.

The season starts March 31 and ends in September. The castle is open for guided tours and park walks all year round.

In 2010, Sofiero was votes Europe’s most beautiful park.
