Whether you are looking for that perfect 50’s dress, unique antique furniture or books for bargain prices, the many flea markets and vintage shops of Skåne will offer you plenty to choose from.

Look for the sign ”Loppis”

In the summertime, Skåne's countryside comes alive with countless flea markets and the cities are filled with thrift stores and vintage shops. The Swedish word for flea market is Loppmarknad, or more colloquially, Loppis. Look for the handwritten signs marked ”Loppis” as you drive around in the countryside. These signs will point you in the direction of everything from small backyard sales and the local sports associations fundraising markets to huge, recurring flea markets attracting thousands of visitors.

There are also the permanent, indoor markets that you will find in old barns and farmhouses. Added to those are the innumerable vintage shops in the cities. Depending on what you are looking for, they all have their advantages, and just going with the flow and making spontaneous stops is part of the charm. But if you are a dedicated thrifter, chances are that you will want to optimize your shopping and plan a little in advance. Keep reading for a guide to some of the best vintage shopping in Skåne.

Street markets

In the summertime, flea markets are arranged regularly in many of the cities of Skåne. Some are larger and more known than others, and the two largest ones take place in the cities of Malmö and Lund.

Drottningtorget in Malmö

On walking distance from the Central Station in Malmö, you will find a large square called Drottningtorget - The Queen’s Square. Every Sunday in the summertime a large flea market is arranged here, where the vendors range from ordinary people just clearing out their old stuff to professional vintage vendors selling antiques and curiosities. Here you can make real bargains and plenty of quirky finds. An Italian ice cream at café Dolce Sicilia, located right by the square, is a perfect way to round of your shopping spree.

In the picturesque city of Lund, the university town of Sweden, you will find Skånes largest street market. On Saturdays during the warmer part of the year, this normally quiet street turns into a popular flea market, and strolling along the never-ending line of stands you can make plenty of finds. Most of the vendors are the people of Lund selling things they no longer need, and here you can find everything from party dresses to vintage books and furniture. The earlier you come, the better is your chance of finding the real gems, since markets like these are often browsed by the professional vintage dealers in the morning.
