Are you up for a trip back to the Middle Ages? Glimmingehus, located in eastern Skåne near the small city of Simrishamn, is the best-preserved medieval manor in all of Scandinavia. The origin of this stately fortress dates as far back as the year of 1499, and a visit here will give you fascinating insights in what life at that time was like. The old castle was built to be prepared for battle and features a lot of unique defense elements, such as gaps through which hot tar could be poured over intruders, drawbridges, trenches and other deadly traps. The staff takes ambitious part in making the history come alive - here you can listen to ghost stories in the summertime, you can try your hand at Middle Age-chores, join one of the guided tours or simply relax in the beautiful herb garden.

Kulturen is one of the world’s best open air museum in central Lund, the picturesque university town of Skåne. It comprises two blocks of historical buildings and gardens.
Walk in the beautiful park among ancient preserved or recreated buildings gathered from around the country, some of which stand on the site where they were once built. The houses are surrounded by cobblestone streets settings and beautiful gardens.
Kulturen is built according to the pavilion system that has inspired different world exhibitions of the nineteenth century. There are up to twenty different exhibitions, highlighting everything from art, design, culture and history.
The playground features a small water system with an old-fashioned, manual pump that keeps the youngest ones entertained for hours. There are often temporary exhibitions aimed especially at kids. If you get hungry, drop into the restaurant and café, or enjoy a picnic on the well-kept lawns.

In central Malmö you will find the Malmöhus Castle where children of all ages will love the aquarium to watch colourful fish in coral reefs and poisonous frogs from the rain forest. This is the oldest preserved renaissance castle in all of the northern countries and today it houses temporary exhibitions as well as and permanent ones. Buying a ticket here will also give you access to the Technical and Nautical Museum just across the street - a Mecca for kids who love ships and trains.

Entering the park of Wanås Castle is like leaving the ordinary world. It’s a fairy tale universe where anything is possible and where art is everywhere.
It houses a unique collection of contemporary art from renowned international artists.
Wanås consists of a medieval castle, an organic farm, a beautiful park full of sculptures and an art gallery.
There are over 50 permanent works of art and temporary exhibitions. Children can write a wish on paper and hang it in Yoko Ono’s wishing tree, run through the forest and play on the swings that are works of art in themselves. The on-site shop sells organic toys and the cafeteria has organic ice cream and pastries.

Tykarpsgrottan - bat caves of Tykarp

This intriguing system of underground caves is close to Hässleholm in central Skåne.
Miners have been digging for limestone for centuries, which has left a deep system of caves that are open to visitors parts of the year.
Entering these caves that lie 12 metres below ground is an exciting and chilly experience, so be sure to bring your sweater. The caves have been used as background in many movie recordings, the most famous is the children’s movie Ronja - the robber's daughter, based on the popular novel by Astrid Lindgren.
The caves are far from abandoned. Today they are inhabited by 8 different species of bat that live and hibernate here, sleeping through winter hanging upside down from the ceiling.
From October until March/April the caves are closed to protect bats. The rest of the year they are open for visitors on certain days and there are bat safaris. Check out the web page for more information.

At Upzone Adventure Park, outside Ängelhom in north western Skåne, you can do that and more. The park is divided into four parts; the Wildzone, Fitnesszone, Adventurezone and Riskzone.
